Major Kirk H. Waibel, MD, FAAAAI"I am deeply honored to receive the ERT Clinical Research Grant award. The generosity of the ERT board and the Academy has brought to fruition my desire to continue clinical research. This award will allow me to pursue our understanding regarding smallpox vaccine health care and prevention of accidental contact transmission."

Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Education and Research Trust (ART)

With your help, the ART will build and sustain a network of academic faculty, educators and clinical specialists in allergy, asthma and immunology to optimally treat individuals with these diseases.

  • One out of every six people suffers from allergies and one out of every 15 people has asthma in the United States, yet there is only one physician for every 71,000 people, trained in the diagnosis and treatment of allergic disease.

  • The average age of practicing allergists is 53; and only 122 new allergists are coming into the field each year.

  • Every year there are fewer and fewer allergy/immunology physicians available to attend to a growing U.S. population with an ever-increasing demand for asthma and allergy-related treatment.

Allergy, asthma and immunologic diseases can have a significant impact on one’s quality of life and they can be life threatening – establishing and/or maintaining outstanding training programs at respected institutions has never been more important.
